Michael was a chorus member with Canterbury Opera and appeared in Tosca, I pagliacci and Lucia di Lammermoor. He received singing tuition from Kathleen Johnson for a number of years and is currently a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Choir.
With Southern Opera, Michael appeared as a member of the chorus in both Carmen in 2007 and in Il trovatore in 2008. Last year, he performed with the newly formed Solid Energy Ensemble of Southern Opera in concerts in Christchurch, Oamaru, Blenheim, Ashburton and Geraldine. In 2009 he appeared in Gianni Schicchi in the roles of Guccio and Buoso Donati.
