2009 is a year full of operatic promise for Southern Opera and what a wonderful start to the year it was with one of my favourite one-act operas, Puccini’s comedy "Gianni Schicchi". This is such a delightful opera and I understand that Mark Hadlow's direction injected just the right amount of humour to compliment Puccini's excellent score.

I cannot recommend "The Magic Flute" highly enough. This beautiful and mystic Mozart opera has something in it for old and young alike and will be magical under the direction of Linda Kitchen (with whom I have sung at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden many moons ago!). As with all Mozart the music is perfection and brings to this work a special beauty and enchantment.

I look forward to hearing great things about the company and its continuing success in 2009!
